Willows Services Center — an emergency overnight shelter with daytime drop-in services with access to resting spaces, case management, employment, and housing navigation. In addition, access is provided for basic needs, including food, showers, laundry, clothing, and hygiene items.

affordable housing — Iva Place Kirkland

Friends of Youth's work to address local housing needs included opening Iva Place Kirkland in 2024. Iva Place, named in honor of our founder Iva Matsen, is a green, energy-efficient apartment community offering affordable living for young adults ages 18–24 earning at or below 30%, 35%, and 50% of area median income.

Most units are two-bedroom apartments with a shared, furnished living area including a kitchen, living room, and bathroom. Utilities and Wi-Fi are included; limited on-site parking is available.

bridge housing

For up to 90 days

 

When young adults transfer out of inpatient behavioral health care, finding safe, stable housing is often the missing piece of their recovery.

​

Bridge Pointe, our bridge housing program, is voluntary, short-term housing designed to support young adults rebuilding wellness and independence — dedicated to those leaving inpatient care (or who participated in inpatient treatment within the past 30 days) who do not have stable housing and are seeking a structured, substance-free next step.

​

Recovery isn't one-size-fits-all. Our program offers trauma-informed care, structure, and compassion to help each young adult build the life they envision, easing the transition into community living.

Eligibility
  • Young adults, ages 18–24 who have exited inpatient behavioral health care (or discharged within the last 30 days) with no current long-term housing plan 

  • Participate in an intake phone screen 

  • Have a willingness to engage in a supportive, substance-free community 

 

Note: Referring agencies or interested individuals are encouraged to connect with Friends of Youth well in advance of a client's discharge date to ensure a seamless transition. 

Services

Our two residential homes offer a welcoming community for up to five young adults per home, with private bedrooms and shared living spaces in Kirkland, WA. On-site, resident-led, trauma-informed support includes:

  • On-site mental health therapy

  • Support with substance use and recovery

  • Medication support and coordination

Life Skills & Community
  • Daily life skills coaching (budgeting, cooking, transportation, etc.)

  • Structured group sessions

  • Peer-led groups and mentorship

  • Help connecting to community, education, and employment resources

  • A collaborative household environment

  • Dedicated help navigating resources to secure permanent, safe housing to transition to independent living

Short-term financial assistance is available for past-due rent, monthly housing costs, apartment application fees, security deposits, limited moving costs, housing expenses incurred due to entering treatment, and rent for Oxford houses or Recovery Residences.   • Experiencing homelessness or at imminent risk of homelessness

  • Experiencing a substance use disorder (SUD)

  • Income-eligible: household income is less than 50% of the area median income

  • Short-term financial assistance is available to pay for rental arrears, monthly housing costs, apartment application fees, security deposits, limited moving costs, housing expenses incurred due to entering treatment, and rent for Oxford houses or Recovery Residences.

rapid rehousing

Helping young adults and young families experiencing homelessness locate and transition to permanent housing, ages 18–24. Our Rapid Rehousing program provides a flexible rental subsidy alongside case management to help boost income and build long-term independence and self-sufficiency.

tenant advising & support

Through a close partnership with Imagine Housing, Friends of Youth provides on-site, supportive case management to young adults and young families (ages 18–24) in our Supportive Housing program located in Kirkland, WA. We work side-by-side with residents to ensure they have the resources, community connections, and support needed to thrive.

transitional living program

Friends of Youth's Transitional Living Programs offer more than a safe place to stay. For up to 24 months, we provide stable housing, dedicated case management, counseling, and essential life skills training to help young people build long-term stability and transition successfully into permanent housing.

 

Our supportive housing communities include:

  • Bothell — serving families headed by a young adult, ages 18–24

  • Seattle — supporting pregnant and parenting young mothers, ages 18–21

  • Kirkland Campus — providing a safe haven for youth and young adults
