We are thrilled to celebrate NW Children’s Foundation for their continued partnership and commitment to young people in our community. Today, NW Children's Foundation grant funds support our New Ground Totem Lake (NGTL) Transitional Living Program (TLP).
NGTL serves young adults ages 18 to 21, providing up to 18 months of stable housing along with wraparound services. These include onsite case management, employment and education support, access to behavioral health and substance use services, and guidance in navigating benefits and housing systems. Together, these supports create a foundation for stability and success.
This investment could not come at a more important time. As the cost of housing in King County continues to rise and many young people continue facing homelessness, the services offered through NGTL are critical. Thanks to the generosity of NW Children’s Foundation, young people have the opportunity to find safety, healing, and hope as they build brighter futures.
This year, we assisted a client who originally came to NGTL from another Friends of Youth program. While at NGTL, they finished high school and began working toward a degree in business. This client faced transportation barriers as they were living in Kirkland and attending school in Seattle. Despite this, the client had a passion for their education that inspired them to continue.
After 18 months in the NGTL program, the client’s Case Manager (CM) was able to submit a mobility request for them, securing them a spot in another great TLP in Seattle. The client currently lives close to school and is looking for employment near their new home. Since they exited NGTL, the CM has remained in contact with the client through our aftercare program. During the 2024 holiday season, the CM was able to get the client gifts from Giving Tree, a program that provides gifts to individuals in need during the holidays. The client happily received new running shoes to support their health goals.
