Building Stronger Communities Through Collaboration
We are thrilled to highlight the significant strides we are making through our intentional and impactful partnerships. One such partnership that exemplifies our commitment to fostering an inclusive community is our collaboration with Eastside Pride PNW. This nonprofit organization, renowned for building bridges between agencies and the community in the Eastside of Seattle, has been instrumental in addressing and supporting the challenges faced by the LGBTQ2IA+ community.
Our Journey with Eastside Pride PNW
Friends of Youth embarked on this meaningful partnership with Eastside Pride PNW in 2022. Since then, we have been excited to support their initiatives by participating in various events they host or are invited to, such as the Kirkland Pride Crosswalk Unveiling in June 2023, celebrating a visible and lasting symbol of inclusion and pride.
Collaborative Projects and Inclusive Spaces
Our partnership extends beyond events to impactful projects that promote inclusivity. We have worked closely with Eastside Pride PNW during the design and planning stages of the Willows Youth Services Center project. Our goal was to ensure that the physical spaces are as inclusive as possible for LGBTQ2IA+ young adults and employees who utilize the building. The contribution of a beautiful mosaic by Eastside Pride PNW volunteers upon the project’s completion symbolizes the spirit of collaboration and community.
Looking ahead, we are excited to embark on the comprehensive development of the library at the Willows Youth Services Center in the next fiscal year. This project aims to provide a space for resources, including banned books, that are not typically found in libraries. Engaging with Eastside Pride PNW volunteers in these conversations ensures that we create a resource-rich, inclusive environment that benefits our clients and employees.
The Significance of Partnerships in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Work
Partnerships like the one we have with Eastside Pride PNW are crucial to our DEI efforts. They help guide our work, extending our reach beyond the agency and providing vital support and comfort. These relationships are not just collaborations; they are meaningful, deep, and healthy connections that promote inclusivity, welcoming, and a strong sense of belonging.
Recently, we attended the Paws and Pride event alongside Eastside Pride PNW, who generously provided us with booth space and a canopy. Being placed next to significant organizations such as Lambert House and PFLAG underscored the importance of a unified community effort. Together, we are building a stronger safety net for youth, young adults, and community members who identify as LGBTQ2IA+.
Moving Forward Together
Our continued work with Eastside Pride PNW exemplifies the power of community partnerships in DEI. By collaborating and supporting each other, we create a more inclusive and supportive environment for all. We are excited to continue this journey, building stronger, more inclusive communities together.
Thank you for your ongoing support and commitment to our DEI initiatives.
