Youth Engagement Team (YET)
Ages 12–17
Helping youth who are at risk of, or experiencing homelessness navigate life challenges, backed by a team of case managers, housing navigators, therapists, and lawyers.

The Youth Engagement Team includes a case manager, a housing navigator, a mental health therapist, and lawyers (through Legal Counsel for Youth and Children) working with youth at risk of or experiencing homelessness in King County. YET offers family mediation and, when possible, reunification; legal advice when needed; and housing navigation and rental assistance if the family is homeless. Services are offered Monday through Friday.
YET coordinates care with other providers using a team approach — drawing in all available supportive people in a youth's life — and works intensively to help youth reach stability, making contact within 24–48 hours of referral. YET is mobile: case managers, therapists, and lawyers can meet youth wherever is most convenient — school, home, shelter, library, or elsewhere.

Eligibility

Ages 12–17 (youth who turn 18 while enrolled may continue in the program)

Currently homeless or at risk of homelessness and not already under the care of a state department

Currently resides in King County
Services

Help obtaining personal identification and documentation needed to qualify for housing
-
Transitional Living Program placement, shelter, or rental assistance for families experiencing homelessness

Assistance navigating housing and rental assistance
-
Connection to resources for basic needs (food, clothing, phone and phone plan, hygiene products)

Connection to legal advice through Legal Counsel for Youth and Children (LCYC)

Individual mental health services, support with interpersonal relationships, and/or Family mediation or therapy, as needed

Building independent living skills, including education, employment, financial literacy, health, and general self-sufficiency

Safe Place
24-hour crisis hotline for youth ages 12 - 17. Safe Place coordinators assess crises, provide outreach and referrals to appropriate shelter and support services.
