Flexible hours, but must attend a four night training and bi-monthly Parent Mentor Meetings.

Skills:
Must enjoy adolescents, be non-judgmental, and have excellent communication skills. Must have time for weekly home visits to a young, first-time parent and to attend mentor meetings twice a month.
Parenting experience or with young children is beneficial, but not
required. Bi-lingual, Spanish speaking volunteers are especially encouraged to apply.

After screening and training, volunteers will be matched one-on-one with a parent under the age of 22 who is pregnant or parenting an infant. Each mentor spends 3-6 hours per month for a minimum of one year, visiting the young parent in their home. Mentors provide a non-judgmental listening presence, parenting information and community resources to their assigned family.

- Reduce the isolation felt by young parents
- Promote positive parenting
- Encourage family independence
- Share knowledge and life experiences
