Tutor for the El Puente Independent Living Program

Project Details:
The El Puente Independent Living Program is a small staffed group home in Renton that serves male adolescent boys in foster care. The youth are primarily from Mexico and Central America ages 15-18. All of the youth have been separated from their families and are in need of housing and services to prepare them for independent living once they turn 18 and are transitioning out of foster care. Often the youth have significant gaps in education and would greatly benefit from individual tutoring to improve their English language skills as well as help support their success in school.
The El Puente program is seeking volunteers who are able to donate at least 1-2 hours weekly in tutoring assistance through the end of the school year (June 2010). Volunteers who are Spanish speaking would be especially helpful for those youth who are not yet conversational in English.
