Position Title

   School Based Prevention / Intervention Specialist

Description

    Provide individual, group and prevention based services to students in a school
    setting.

Responsibilities

    1. Provide group and individual substance use disorder support services in a school-
    based setting.
    2. Coordinate assessment and service referrals with students and families.
    3. Provide substance abuse screenings.
    4. Provide student/staff education regarding substance use/abuse, and its impact
    on development and learning.
    5. Maintain client confidentiality consistent with requirements of HIPAA and 42 CFR
    part 2.
    6. Maintain client case file records to meet all WAC, King County and COA
    requirements.
    7. Meet with supervisor on a regular basis and attend all required meetings,
    consultations and trainings.
    8. Work cooperatively with other agency and school staff in all areas and specifically
    in mutual case consultation.
    9. Maintain continuing education requirements for Chemical Dependency
    Professionals (CDP) or education for trainees (CDPT).
    10. Maintain a 60% direct service goal.

Required Skills and Qualifications

    A. Education and Experience
        1. Current Chemical Dependency Professional/Trainee per WAC 388-805
        2. BA in Psychology, Social Work, or a related field. Master's Degree preferred.
        3. Bilingual (fluent in both Spanish and English) highly desirable.

    B. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
        1. An ability to engage with diverse populations in a culturally responsive manner.
        2. Demonstrate a commitment to the values of equity and inclusion by honoring
        and celebrating diverse characteristics and expressions of personal identity.
        3. Knowledge of relevant COA standards and participation in the Performance
        and Quality Improvement process.
        4. Employees and volunteers who operate their own or Friends of Youth vehicles
        on Friends of Youth business must have a safe driving record as defined by
        Friends of Youth. Employees and volunteers who operate their own vehicle(s)
        on Friends of Youth business must carry auto liability insurance that complies
        with the requirements of Friends of Youth.
        5. Understanding of adolescent development and identity formation.

Hours

    32 - 40 hours / week  (.75 - 1.0 FTE)
