Position Title

    Weekend Relief Staff, New Ground Kirkland / Everett


    The Weekend Relief Staff is an overnight position that is responsible for weekend    
    supervision of homeless young adults and will act as role model and provide support
    for these residents.

    In addition to the coverage of weekends, it is required that persons in this position
    also relieve Resident Managers for times of vacation leave and on agency holidays.

    (Please note: No one staff person is ever expected to cover every holiday or vacation
    leave, unless desired)


    A. Supervision of Residents
        1. Support residents in the execution of their Independent Living Plan.
        2. Be available on-site during scheduled weekend hours to supervise residents'
        activities. Walk hallways and grounds periodically (at least once every two hours)
        to ensure safety and compliance with rules.
        3. Assist in any emergency needs or events that may arise.
        4. Record weekend activities and report activities to Resident Manager on
        Sunday night.
        5. Plan and participate in recreational activities with residents.
        6. Attend meetings and trainings as required.
        7. When necessary, assist in maintenance needs.
        8. Must inform Resident Manager if you will be out of reach or out of town.
        9. Must provide and maintain a “best to reach at” e-mail address or phone
        number that is checked a minimum of once per day.
        10. Must respond within one business day to any and all shift availability
        queries from Resident Manager, Case Manager or fellow Weekend Relief
        staff member.
        12. Must be able to work at least one holiday per calendar year.
        13. If for some reason you are no longer able to work a scheduled shift, it is
        your responsibility to find coverage for that shift, as well as for contacting
        the Resident Manager as soon as you know you will be unable to work.

Required Skills and Qualifications

    A. Education and Experience
        1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
        2. Demonstrates an appropriate maturity level to supervise and support
        young adults.
        3. Must demonstrate sensitivity to homelessness and cultural differences. Must
        like working with young adults.
        4. Must have valid Washington State driver's license and have own
        transportation with necessary insurance.
        5. Employees and volunteers who operate their own or Friends of Youth
        vehicles on Friends of Youth business must have a safe driving record as
        defined by Friends of Youth. Employees and volunteers who operate their own
        vehicle(s) on Friends of Youth business must carry auto liability insurance that
        complies with the requirements of Friends of Youth.
        6. Experience with infants and toddlers at certain sites.
        7. Education or experience in cultural competency.

    B. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
        1. An ability to engage with diverse populations in a culturally responsive manner.
        2. Demonstrate a commitment to the values of equity and inclusion by honoring
        and celebrating diverse characteristics and expressions of personal identity.
        3. Ability to develop warm and open relationship while maintaining appropriate
        boundaries with residents.
        4. Ability to observe and discuss behavior problems and suggest appropriate
        5. Must demonstrate sound judgment (in assessing situations).
        6. Must demonstrate sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural differences and
        a commitment to the value of cultural competency.


    Weekend Relief staff work from 6pm on Friday until noon on Sunday, including
    sleeping on-site overnight on Friday and Saturday with an on-call phone. Each shift
    is 26 paid hours, including a 2-hour paid break on Saturday at a time of the staff
    member’s choosing. Weekend Relief are expected to work a minimum of one shift
    per month. Weekend Relief are also asked to cover evening (6-10pm) shifts on
    agency holidays and when the Resident Manager is sick or on vacation. There are
    approximately 3-5 staff on roster at any time to pick up these shifts. No one staff
    member will be expected to work all open evenings and holidays.


    $15 / hour
