Position Title
Mental Health Therapist - Transitional Living Program
Description
A .5 FTE (20 hour/week) Mental Health Therapist position serving Friends of Youth’s New Ground Kirkland
and Everett facilities. The Clinical Case Manager, using short- and long-term individual and
family therapy, group counseling, educational classes and case management services, provides
prevention and intervention services to youth, young adults, families, and communities.
Responsibilities
- Counseling Services
- Part of a 50% direct service goal requiring an ongoing caseload of 10-15 clients (.5 FTE).
- Provide individual, couple, family and group counseling, intake and assessment,
crisis intervention, drop-in, and follow up services. Services are provided in the office,
at local schools, and/or by phone, or at other locations as assigned by Program Manager.
- Community Education
- Part of a 50% direct service goal.
- Provide education and prevention services, i.e., parenting classes,
skill building classes, and community and school trainings and presentations.
- Outreach
- Part of a 50% direct service goal.
- Provide ongoing outreach to children, youth, parents, schools and communities to
ensure awareness of community needs and service availability.
- Develop and maintain positive relations with community referral sources.
- Case Management
- Part of a 50% direct service goal.
- Provide case consultation, linkage to and coordination of services with collateral
contacts and advocacy for assigned clients.
- Utilize agency programs/services in efforts to provide a continuum of care.
- Documentation and Evaluation
- Provide necessary agency and program statistical information and information
necessary for program/services evaluation.
- Maintain case records in an accurate and timely manner per all WAC, COA, PHP and
King County requirements.
- Meet with supervisor on a regular basis and attend required meetings, consultations and trainings.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Education and Experience
- Master's Degree in social services or related field.
- Chemical Dependency Professional (CDP) or Chemical Dependency Professional Trainee (CDPT).
- At least three quarters of a counseling or related internship as part of a Master's Degree program.
- Experience in counseling youth, young adults and families.
- Experience in leading groups, trainings, and workshops.
- Experience and knowledge of co-occurring disorders.
- Employees and volunteers who operate their own or Friends of Youth vehicles on
Friends of Youth business must have a safe driving record as defined by Friends of Youth.
Employees and volunteers who operate their own vehicle(s) on Friends of Youth business must
carry auto liability insurance that complies with the requirements of Friends of Youth.
- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of treatment approaches for individual and family counseling, crisis intervention and brief therapy.
- Knowledge of group process.
- Knowledge of the Recovery Model and of the recovery competencies.
- Ability to develop and monitor goal-directed treatment relationships.
- Ability to work in a community setting.
- Ability to develop community resources and market services.
- Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
- Ability to read, write and speak in English.
- Knowledge of relevant COA standards and participation in the Continuous Quality Improvement process.
- Must demonstrate sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural differences.
