Position Title

The Landing Overnight Counselor

Description

The Overnight Staff provides supervision, guidance and performs certain tasks in the shelter for up to fifteen homeless young adults (aged 18-24 years), implements agency and shelter policies, and is responsible for the safety and cleanliness of the facility.

Responsibilities

  1. Guidance and Supervision
    1. Responsibility for the security of facility and grounds during shift.
    2. Responsible for whereabouts of young adults at all times.
    3. Respect confidentiality of the young adults.
    4. Provide a safe, caring, and non-judgmental environment for the young adults.
    5. Respect differences in cultural, social, sexual and religious backgrounds.
    6. Enhance cultural pride.
    7. Report certain behaviors and situations to Landing Coordinator and Program Manager.
    8. Maintain prescribed medications and other objects in a secure area
    9. Build and maintain a collaborative relationship with the Bellevue Family YMCA.
  2. Nightly tasks
    1. Check all young adults into the Landing during scheduled times.
    2. Initiate orientation for new young adults admitted during the shift.
    3. Monitor laundry and showers.
    4. Serve dinner and breakfast daily for young adults.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  1. Education and Experience
    1. Bachelor’s Degree in the Social Sciences field is strongly preferred.
    2. At least 21 years of age and in generally good health.
    3. Have no serious criminal record.
    4. Must have Red Cross First Aid/CPR card and Food Handler’s permit or
      obtain them within 30 days of hiring.
    5. Must pass TB screening.
    6. Must successfully pass criminal history check (WAC 388-73-030).
  2. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    1. Ability to develop warm and open relationships with young adults.
    2. Ability to observe and discuss behavior problems and suggest appropriate alternatives.
    3. Ability to demonstrate or learn de-escalation methods.
    4. Good role model.
    5. Ability to work in a setting that can be highly stressful.
    6. Must demonstrate sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural differences.
    7. Ability to interact with volunteers and provide leadership.
    8. Ability to work collaboratively with a variety of organizations.

Hours

8:30pm - 8:30am 1-2 nights/week

Salary

$11.00/hr DOQ
