Position Title

    Volunteer Program Manager


    The Volunteer Program Manager is responsible for the oversight and management
    of the volunteer program. This includes identifying, defining and supporting
    completion of volunteer opportunities within the organization, developing all
    volunteer materials and recruiting, training, and recognizing volunteers. The
    Volunteer Program Manager is responsible for coordinating and responding to all
    large group requests. The Volunteer Program Manager oversees the Volunteer
    Specialist position who is responsible for individual volunteer engagement and
    in-kind donations. The Volunteer Program Manager is a key member of the
    Development team working closely with the team to ensure effective support for
    events, appeals and other cultivation and engagement activities as needed. This
    position supervises the Volunteer Specialist.


    Volunteer Program Management
        · Design and implement volunteer program.

        · Build and maintain relationships with volunteers, interns, client alumni, donors,
        supporters, corporations, and community leaders.
        · Develop and implement effective strategies to recruit, train, and coordinate
        volunteers in order to create a long term partnership.
        · Expand and formalize Friends of Youth’s client alumni network and coordinate
        tutoring program.
        · Coordinate our community building strategies to deepen engagement among
        all LGBTQ people and allies, including people who are economically, racially,
        socially, geographically, or politically disenfranchised.
        · Host and attend recruiting events within the community to attract a diverse
        group of volunteers, interns, and mentors.
        · Develop, organize, and participate in volunteer recognition programs,
        appreciation activities, and special events.
        · Deliver outreach and education workshops, trainings, and seminars for
        community groups, employee resource groups, and service clubs.
        · Participate actively in philanthropy and community engagement by serving
        on committees and attending community events.
        · Work with Communications to publicize opportunities for volunteers.
        · Build and maintain relationships with college and university internship

        · Conduct and/or arrange for volunteer/tutor orientations and trainings.
        · Arrange and manage administrative volunteers with assignments related to
        site upkeep, programs, outreach, special events, and development.
        · Develop and manage volunteer and tutoring policies, procedures, and
        standards of service.
        · Confer with volunteers to resolve grievances and promote cooperation and
        · Implement ongoing feedback systems for volunteers, tutors, client alumni,
        and corporate groups and compile and analyze results to help with volunteer
        program improvements.
        · Survey staff regularly to assess volunteer needs and maintain volunteer and
        intern assignments and descriptions.
        · Recommend the most efficient use of volunteers, appropriate
        volunteer/supervisory mix, and future workforce needs to support volunteer
        program operations.
        · Maintain accurate records and provide timely statistical and activity reports
        on volunteer participation.
        · Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Qualifications

    A. Education and Experience
        1. Bachelor’s Degree.
        2. Experience working with and supervising volunteers.
        3. Community resource development experience.
        4. Valid Washington State driver’s license, car insurance, and reliable vehicle.
        5. Employees and volunteers who operate their own or Friends of Youth
        vehicles on Friends of Youth business must have a safe driving record as
        defined by Friends of Youth. Employees and volunteers who operate their own
        vehicle(s) on Friends of Youth business must carry auto liability insurance that
        complies with the requirements of Friends of Youth.
        6. An ability to engage with diverse populations in a culturally responsive manger.
        7. Demonstrate a commitment to the values of equity and inclusion by honoring

    B. Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge
        1. 5-7 years’ experience with volunteer management and knowledge of current
        trends related to volunteerism.
        2. Strong interpersonal and conflict management skills and ability to collaborate
        and work as part of a team.
        3. Outstanding organizational skills, creativity/innovation, attention to detail,
        ability to gracefully manage multiple deadlines and priorities.
        4. A commitment to providing quality service to all Friends of Youth constituents,
        and the ability to develop a positive working relationship with staff, volunteers,
        donors, and community supporters.
        5. Flexibility: may be required to work some evenings, weekends, and occasional
        6. Knowledge of LGBTQ communities and a commitment to Equity.
        7. Demonstrated understanding and experience working on issues related to
        racial, economic, and working in small and large communities.
        8. Commitment to and passion for Friends of Youth’s mission and programs.
        9. Strong verbal and written communications skills; the ability to communicate
        Friends of Youth’s mission and interests to a broad audience; adept at
        developing and delivering trainings.
        10. Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office software applications and donor
        databases, Raisers Edge a plus.   


    Full Time


    $56,000 - 59,000 DOE
